College Spotlight is a very short introduction to a college/university, with some fun and interesting highlights I've gathered during tours, meetings with admission staff, webinars, and research.
Hopefully these College Spotlight posts will help you determine whether a school could be a good fit and warrants additional research.
Loyola Marymount University (LMU) in Los Angeles, California is a Jesuit university with a beautiful campus.
Here are some quick highlights about Loyola Marymount University:
If you love palm trees, sunshine, and warm weather, you might just fall in love with LMU's campus.
LMU sits on a bluff with a stunning view that overlooks the ocean and Marina del Rey. In the distance, you can even see the Hollywood sign!
The campus is relatively flat and very accessible for people with mobility concerns.
While not walkable to a main street area with shops/restaurants, there is a shuttle to Silicon Beach (Meta, Google, etc.) and the shopping district. It's also a quick trip to LAX, so travel home is easy.
Though there's not housing requirement, about 95% of freshman live on campus. Housing is generally less expensive on campus than the surrounding area, and on-campus housing is guaranteed all four years.
LMU is a Jesuit institution, but students of all faith backgrounds are welcome. Roughly half of students identify as Catholic. Two philosophy and two theology courses are required, but the topics are varied to accommodate all students.
LMU has an accessible acceptance rate for most majors, but it is one of the most highly competitive schools for film. Adjacent majors such as screenwriting, animation, and recording arts are slightly less competitive than film.
Students own 100% rights to any work produced on campus. This is not typical of many campuses, and is definitely a plus for artists, entrepreneurs, and researchers.
Interesting fact: LMU has a piece of the Berlin Wall on display in one of their many outdoor spaces.
