Interesting Majors You May Not Have Considered

amusement

When I ask students to list the majors they know, I typically receive 10-20 answers. They're often surprised to hear that by some estimates, there are around 2,000 possible majors across U.S. colleges and universities.

Here are some interesting majors that you and your student may not have considered, along with a college that offers each major:

  • Themed Entertainment Design- Purdue University

    • Amusement parks and tourist venues need creative thinkers to design their attractions

  • Packaging Science- Rochester Institute of Technology

    • Sustainable, cost-effective product packaging involves design, business, and engineering

  • Homeland Security- Embry Riddle Aeronautical University

    • Great major for students interested in military science and counterterrorism

  • Cannabis and Natural Medicinals- Truman State University

    • Yes, it's a major. This growing industry has resulted in increased options for majors, minors, and certificates

  • Philosophy, Politics, Economics, and Law- The University of Arizona

    • Many pre-law students will choose one of these majors, but some schools offer more breadth of study across disciplines for interested students

  • User Experience (UX) and Interaction Design- Drexel University

    • Combines graphic/product design and coding with the goal of creating efficient, enjoyable online experiences for consumers

  • Sports Analytics- Baylor University

    • Major for data-driven students who are good with numbers and also have a strong interest in sports. Sports Management is an option for students who are more business-oriented

  • Theater Design and Technology- Syracuse University

  • Entertainment Engineering and Design- University of Nevada-Las Vegas
